2020 Restaurant Miró Classic French cuisine

Restaurant Miró is an institution on the gastronomic scene in Aarhus. It first opened its doors back in 1990, with owner and head chef Toni Leichtle at the helm and is thus the city's oldest gourmet restaurant. At Miró, the focus is on good taste, craftsmanship and ingredients. It is the classic French techniques using local, exquisite ingredients that, in interplay with each other, emphasize the approach to food.

The team around Miró has been continuously expanded, but still with Toni on the floor as the exceptional host, who, together with the rest of the team, does everything to ensure that you as a guest get a total experience.

In the kitchen, Alexander Johnsen rules as head chef, and in front is restaurant manager Sidse Rasmussen.

At Miró, the aim is to be the place you always want to return to. Where you can sit back and experience a unique and warm-hearted atmosphere garnished with tasty food created by passionate chefs.

Chaîne de Danemark had put on this year's first event in Aarhus at Miró, and it was with great expectations that we arrived at the restaurant on a warm June afternoon. We had agreed to start well in advance at. 17:30, so we could get through the large menu ‘Hele Molevitten’ before the corona-early closing. This rule had been extended the day before by the government to midnight, so we had plenty of time to enjoy the evening in peace and quiet.

Toni and his team welcomed us with a glass of champagne in the bright and friendly room, on the corner next to the boulevard and the creek on the other side of the road. It was still with a bandage on - the last weekend before the injunction was lifted.

Well placed in the very comfortable chairs, we were guided through the evening through dishes and wines by the various chefs and the restaurant manager, respectively.

The menu was as follows:

Three hors d’oeuvres

Celler Vell Brut Nature Reserva

Baerii Caviar

Champagne

Oysters - White asparagus - Gooseberries

2017 - Gewürztraminer - Meisental - Höfflin - Baden - Germany

Lobster - Brussels sprouts - Tomato

2019 - Merseguera - La Horca - Sopla Levante - Alicante - Spain

Haddock - Potato - North Sea cheese

2017 - Chardonnay - Rodríguez de Vera - Almansa - Spain

Pork - Pumpkin - Grilled salad

2018 - Pinot Noir - René Lequin-Colin - Burgundy - France

Rhubarb - Creme Fraiche - Woodrufft

2017 - Riesling Auslese ** - Kerpen - Mosel - Germany

Coffee with sweets

After dinner, the brigades received comments from Grand Officier Maître Rotisseur and Chancelier, Thorbjørn S. Moy. Feedback was unambiguous : all dishes were of a very high craftsmanship quality. The professionalism of the team was obvious, and excellent service was provided, all in a safe and cozy atmosphere. It was therefore a mystery to him why there was no Michelin star sign hanging outside. Very high class, and considering the price of the menu probably one of the best places he could think of.

Bailli Délégué Jørgen Krenk then awarded each member of staff one of the Danish Chaîne Service Pins in appreciation of the exquisite experience.

Finally, our host, restaurateur Toni Leichte, is presented with a gold-plated Diplome d’Honneur Restaurant for hanging in the restaurant.

We will definitely return to restaurant Miró!
